EUROPE To Issue CD+DVD Box Set Next Year
December 28, 2002'80s hard rockers EUROPE will release a joint CD & DVD box next year containing the group's biggest hits as well as demos, live recordings and previously-unreleased material, frontman Joey Tempest told Sweden's biggest daily newspaper Aftonbladet.
The band — Tempest, John Norum (guitar),Kee Marcello (guitar),Ian Haugland (drums),Mic Michaeli (keyboards),and John Levén (bass) — will hold a meeting next month in Stockholm, Sweden to decide what will be included in the package, which will reportedly feature video footage from the group's personal archives.
While much of the material will already have been available on the band's previous releases, the new collection will include the "best possible" versions of the group's classics along with several previously-unreleased recordings, which will consist primarily of outtakes from the 1989-1991 songwriting sessions for the band's final studio album, "Prisoners In Paradise".
Among the rare and previously-unreleased cuts set to be included in the package are "Wanted Man", "Never Gonna Let You Go", "Little Sinner", "Don't Know How To Love No More", Joey's version of "Stranded" (which was originally written for Tone Norum, sister of John),and an unreleased song from "The Final Countdown" sessions called "Where Men Won't Dare".
The group, who last performed together on New Year's Eve 1999 when they reunited to play two tracks ("Rock The Night" and "The Final Countdown") in Stockholm as part of a live television event that was sponsored by Sweden's biggest media company Kinnevik, are anxious to tour in support of the upcoming collection and, depending on the reaction to the reunion shows, may stay together long enough to record a new studio album — "if the feeling is right," according to Tempest.
